Wiki is something I have never heard of or used before.
Navigating the site was reasonably easy. Wiki is a great tool for collaborative
learning and encouraging a flipped classroom. This type of activity would be
very engaging for high school students. An ICT tool like this will engage
students and encourage participation. This is also a great tool to monitor
student participation. Although this is new and a little exciting for me I feel
there are some disadvantages to this tool. It is very easy to edit or delete
other comments. This way of posting unless structured like the six thinking
hats could become very messy and off task. Using the six thinking hats provided
structure and keeps their thoughts collected and on task. Wiki promotes a
combination of constructivism and connectivism. Constructivism is promoted by
relying on previous knowledge and understanding of a topic to comment and also
to comment on others comments. It also allows students to put forward their own
views and perceptions about a particular topic. Connectivism is promoted in
wiki's by collaborative learning. Students need to create and connect with Wiki
to provide feedback through collaborative learning with other students. Wiki's
will be a prevalent ICT tool in my future learning experiences.
Thanks Tammy, looks like you're off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteGreat comments and explanation of Wiki, Tammy.I am still getting my head around Wiki. I think that a bit more 'work-shopping' with people who are familiar with it and the use of visual aids on how to use, plus a prior discussion on the benefits and disadvantages would make this an easier tool for students to comprehend, initially. I have found myself fumbling along and hoping I am getting it right...
